Classes

Class Levels ...  Age does not determine placement.  Students will be placed based on skill level. You will have students of many different ages in any given class.  Ages, if shown in description or on schedule are there as a guide only.  Please call with placement questions.  920-887-DANC
 
To be a member of Dance Now! Company, you must be enrolled in ballet, tap and jazz.

DiscoverDance Level 3

The children are introduced to the basic concepts of rhythm and movement using creative games that expand their individual creativity. They will learn spatial awareness, listening skills, group socialization and structure. They will strengthen their bodies and learn coordination to ready themselves for the next level in dance. Our goal is to make sure we are building the love of dance in each child, nurturing their natural creativity in a fun and loving atmosphere. Additionally, our goal is to awaken interest, enthusiasm and self confidence through dance.  Minimum age is 3 years old.

DiscoverDance Level 4

This class is for the 4 year old, who is turning 5.  Minimum age is 4.5 years old.  These students will be building upon what they learned in DD Level 3 or they will be beginning in their dance careers.  We will continue our focus on creative movement which builds on the necessary gross motor skills needed for primary dance instruction. We use fun, upbeat music to learn and or improve basic skills like hopping, skipping, jumping, galloping, and balance coordination. Students will engage in dramatic music movement and learn introductory ballet steps. These include plies, tendu, relevé, pliés, first and second positions of the feet, and other introductory dance steps.

DiscoverDance Acro Level 4  NEW NEW NEW NEW

DiscoverAcro combines the artistry of dance with the technical skills of acrobatics.  This  class will help develop strength, balance, and flexibility while dancers continue to explore and develop their artistry.  Through group and individual explorations, skill development obstacle courses and the integration of muti-sensory learning, children will progress equally in this blended art form  Students will develop gross and fine-motor skills and control, learn introductory acro body shapes and tricks, and develop kinesthetic awareness. At the same time, children will learn how to be in a class, and develop their focus, listening, and co-operative skills.   This is a pre-requisite for Primary Acrobatic Arts if your child is under 6 years old.  The perfect add-on for your DiscoverDance 4 student.  

​Pre-Ballet/Tap (Mini Company Level)

Dancers will enjoy this interactive class that builds on basic movements learned in the DiscoverDance II class, but is still appropriate for first-time dancers. The Tap portion of the class will concentrate on building confidence through mastering patterns and steps. The Ballet portion of class includes center and learning more challenging steps, and a brief introduction to the barre.  Students will be required to have both leather ballet slippers and tap shoes. Ages 5-9 years old.

Ballet I (Pre-Preliminary Company Level)

This is a class for students who are new or returning to ballet. Students will continue learning ballet fundamentals and terminology while developing strength, confidence, balance, and flexibility. Leather ballet slippers, leotard, tights and Gayle Grant Ballet Dictionary required.  Ages 6-11 years old.

Ballet II (Preliminary Company Level)

This is a ballet class that is focused on technique yet still provides an entertaining and engaging atmosphere. By participating in the first levels of traditional ballet training, students learn concentration and endurance and become proficient in fundamental dance movement through ballet technique. Leather ballet slippers, leotard and tights required.

Ballet III (Junior Company Level)

In this class attention is paid to the proper extension of the legs and shape of the feet, developing movement sequences, port de bras and balance. Students will see an increase in difficulty in barre and center work. Students begin focus on repetition and retention.  Teacher invitation is required. Leather or canvas ballet slippers, leotard, tights, and hip alignment belt are required.

Ballet IV / Pre-Pointe (Apprentice Company Level)

Pre-requisite: Teacher invitation only. This class is for the ballet student who is expecting to go onto pointe in the future. This class will work hard at the barre in strengthening the feet and ankles, turnout and improving core strength.  They will also work on combinations in center and across the floor.

Ballet V / Pointe (Senior Company Level)

Pre-requisite: Pre-pointe for 1-3 years unless already en pointe. Teacher recommendation only.  Dancers must have at least four years ballet training and be at least 12 years of age. For the safety of the dancer, teacher recommendation is required for pointe shoes and they are looking for dancers with strong cores and ankle strength, as well as dancers who are able to hold their ballet placement at barre and center.  Meets twice a week.

Tween Ballet/Jazz-When Offered

This class is ideal for the somewhat older dancer with no previous dance experience. This class will introduce you to the foundation of ballet and jazz and will work on challenging combinations and technique.  This class is intended for dancers ages 9-12 years old with no previous experience. 

Teen- Ballet-When Offered

This class is for the new or returning older students wanting to experience the joy of dance.  No previous dance experience is necessary.  The ages in this class are meant to be 11 and older.

Teen Tap- When Offered

This class is reserved for Teacher Recommendation only.
This class is appropriate for the older first year tap student or older tap student with little experience in tap.  A ballet class is required alongside.  They will begin to learn more about rhythm, coordination and basic tap terminology.  Tap shoes, leotard and tights are required.  A ballet class is required alongside.

Adult Tap

This class is for the beginning and experienced tapper.  We will decide if we need to split the class after the first night.   We will be exploring different styles of tap including Broadway and Rhythm/Street Tap.  Ages 16 - 99.  Offered in 8 week sessions.

Tap I

This class is appropriate for the first-year tap student greater than age 6, or as a continuation of the pre-ballet/tap classes.  A ballet class is required alongside.  They will begin to learn more about rhythm, coordination and basic tap terminology.  Tap shoes, leotard and tights are required.

Tap II

Pre-requisite: Tap I and one year of prior ballet. Building off basic tap technique leaned in Tap I class, this class will continue to teach rhythm, coordination, basic tap terminology and more complex choreography.  A ballet class is required alongside.  Tap shoes, leotard and tights are required.

Tap III

Pre-requisite: Tap II.  Building off the technique learned in Tap II class, this class will focus on more advanced technique and choreography.  A ballet class is required alongside.   Tap shoes, leotard and tights are required.

Mini Jazz

This class is designed for the 5-6 yr old who wants to explore fun and funky movement with exciting music and jazzy-style dancing. There will also be emphasis on gross motor and free style movement. This class requires that the student is also enrolled in a ballet class. This is a fun and exciting class addition to their regular core classes.  Jazz shoes, leotard and tights are required.

Jazz I

Pre-requisite: One prior year of ballet.  A ballet class must also be taken at the same time as this class, as jazz should be a complimentary study alongside ballet.  The true beginning jazz class.  Students will begin to learn classic jazz technique and apply this to an upbeat jazz number for the recital performance.  Students will also begin working on floor stretches and learning the names and meanings of each stretch.  Ages 7-12 years old

Jazz II

Pre-requisite: One prior year of ballet and one prior year of jazz.  A ballet class must also be taken at the same time as this class.  This class will begin the formal teaching of jazz dance discipline. It includes such elements as kicks, leaps, turns, splits, and isolations. Classes include stretch and strengthening exercises, floor work, and across the floor progressions, in addition to center floor combinations.  Jazz shoes, leotard and tights are required.

Jazz III

Intermediate to advanced level jazz class.  Pre-requisite: Two years of prior jazz training.  A ballet class must also be taken at the same time as this class. Students at this level will learn more complex combinations and delve into more intense jazz technique.  Students will also begin doing abdominal workouts as part of the class.   Jazz shoes, leotard and tights are required.

Beginning and Intermediate Lyrical(when offered)

This class is intended for those dancers with some ballet and/or lyrical experience aged 10-18 years old or for the older student with no previous dance experience.  Authentic message communication and character/storytelling principles of lyrical dance are the focus of our class.  Learn the basics of lyrical technique, body awareness, musicality and shapes. Exercises in class build our choreography, allows the students to move and flow while gaining strength and style. This class truly allows the individuality and uniqueness of each participant the full room to grow and expand as the person they are through dance.  Ballet class required alongside or Ballet Tech when offered. 

Company/Advanced Lyrical    

Pre-requisite:  Teacher invitation only, must be a Company member

Contemporary/Lyrical I (when offered)

Designed for students with minimal dance experience who are curious about contemporary dance techniques and choreography. Perfect for students who have taken other intro level dance courses and who want to broaden their dance knowledge and deepen their physical skill and experience. Working with aspects of modern, jazz, ballet and improvisation, students will develop movement articulation, coordination, strength, flexibility and increased knowledge about their own physical potential. Ballet Tech class or other ballet class is required alongside.

Advanced Contemporary/Lyrical II (Invite only)

This class focuses on a feeling, and then expresses these various sentiments through movement. This style allows the student more mature artistic freedom. Although formal technique is not the main focus in this class, it is necessary for the strength and poise needed in this art form.  Contemporary fuses together many different dance styles such as ballet, jazz, modern, and lyrical. This genre of dance often includes floor work, improvisation and a versatility of body lines and dynamic movements. Contemporary dance is the exploration of the total movement potential of the body. Unlike other forms of dance, it is not bound by set standards or defined styles.  A ballet class needs to be taken alongside. 

Musical Theater

Musical Theater class at Dance Now will combine basic stagecraft, use of voice, expression and of course dance, to tell stories and entertain.  Students will need jazz shoes for the first semester and tap shoes added to the second semester.  Minimal homework will include watching assigned videos with historic and modern musical theater.  The class will prepare a holiday medley and will perform in the spring recital. 

Hip Hop I

Hip Hop is a high-energy class that infuses the latest styles of street dancing, breaking, popping and locking.  Classes will encourage students to step outside of the box by bringing their own individual style and personality to the movement.  This is an introductory class aimed at those ages 9-12 years old.

​Hip Hop II

A more advanced class.  Meant for the dancer with past Hip-Hop experience or other dance experience.  Students will be introduced to different styles of Hip Hop and learn movements from each style.  This class is meant for those students ages 10+ years old and is advanced.

Acrobatic Arts

A professional curriculum for acrobatic dance, this program is designed to promote excellence in flexibility, strength​, balance, limbering, tumbling, basic contortion, and partner/group stunting for dancers. AcroDance is the beautiful fusion of the artistic motion of dance and the athleticism of acrobatics. AcroDance is not the same as gymnastics.  An AcroDancer must complete all of the skills on the hard stage without the advantage of a sprung floor while incorporating musical expression, extension and control. A sprung floor allows a gymnast to complete much more difficult tumbling skills when compared to what is recommended in AcroDance.  A ballet class is required alongside.

COMPANY PERFORMANCE TRAVEL TEAM: This class will be held on every other Saturday mornings.  Students, ages 6 and up, who are Company members, must register to be part of this exciting group.  We will travel to different cities to perform in a variety of venues such as basketball and hockey games, community events, etc.  Company members are those students who are enrolled in Ballet, Tap and Jazz.  Young students who are enrolled in Ballet/Tap combo classes are also considered Company Members.

Rising Stars Cosmos Crew Competition Hip Hop Team:  Cosmo’s is a great entry level team for any dancer looking to get into the dance competition scene! Open to both company dancers and non-company dancers alike, and all experience levels welcome! This is an audition only team, so participation in our open audition or in the galaxy stars training camp is required. Upon acceptance onto the team, enrollment in a ballet class and one additional elective(excluding hip hop) is required. This way our competition dancers remain well- rounded meanwhile creating a curriculum catered to your dancer’s specific goals and aspirations. Even though this is not a galaxy stars team, all members must meet the expectations/requirements of our other competition teams seeing as they will be welcomed whole-heartedly into our amazing competition community(in addition to the rest of our dance community)! This is a fantastic entry level team to participate in for dancers with a strong work ethic and a passion to learn! 

Rising Stars Interstellar Competition Tap Crew:  This is a new addition to our Rising Stars Competition Group.  This class is for any tapper ages 10+ interested in doing a couple of competitions throughout the season. This is an audition only team, so participation in our open audition or in the galaxy stars training camp is required. Upon acceptance onto the team, enrollment in a ballet class and one additional elective(excluding hip hop) is required. This way our competition dancers remain well- rounded meanwhile creating a curriculum catered to your dancer’s specific goals and aspirations. Even though this is not a galaxy stars team, all members must meet the expectations/requirements of our other competition teams seeing as they will be welcomed whole-heartedly into our amazing competition community(in addition to the rest of our dance community)! This is a fantastic entry level team to participate in for dancers with a strong work ethic and a passion to learn! 

Bunhead Bootcamp

This class is new to our schedule and is a great addition to your Dancer’s schedule if they are looking to improve their dance performance and join a performance or competition team at Dance Now!  Dance Performance Training refers to the training of the body and mind to prepare the artist athlete for the physical demands of dance. Bunhead Bootcamp is designed to condition and prepare the dancer specific to their sport, allowing their dance technique to improve faster and with greater integrity. Dancers will leave this class having greater body awareness, understanding of proper alignment, functional movement related to dance, as well a stronger understanding of strength as it relates to dance and dance technique. Clean, studio use only, sneakers are required for this class. 

Galaxy Stars Training Camps

These classes are for those students planning on auditioning for the Galaxy Stars Dance Teams.  Levels are 1, 2, and 3 based on age alone or by prior year's placement.  For more information please call the Studio at 920-887-3262

Galaxy Stars
Super Novas, Nebulas, Cosmos, Comets and Little Dippers

These classes are reserved for those students who auditioned for a position on the Galaxy Stars Competition Teams.  These rehearsal times are only offered in the Beaver Dam Studios.  If you are a Watertown dancer, you are still able to audition for, and dance with, the Galaxy Stars.
